UNITE

Between October 17 and 19, 2025, a scientific seminar on “Good practices for the application of high-tech tools in mathematics, informatics, and IT education” was held in Velingrad, organized by the IT Department of FMI, SU. Researchers from the Center for Excellence UNITe (CoE) presented some of the challenges and opportunities arising from the application of artificial intelligence in education, specifically in the field of teaching mathematics and informatics at school and university level. Participants discussed good practices and approaches, as well as recommendations for teachers for more effective use of digital and high-tech tools in education.
Prof. Pavel Boychev presented his work within the third work package of the project UNITe with a presentation on “Assessment through gamification.” Prof. Krasen Stefanov emphasized on the role of artificial intelligence in education. He stressed the need to educate students who are ready to join the industries of the future. Dr. Albena Antonova examined artificial intelligence from the perspective of general purpose technologies and their role in the overall transformation of the economy and society, the effects on the labor market, and the need for new approaches to education. Marin Barzakov presented some of the UNITE’s projects and emphasized their importance for increasing the scientific potential of partner organizations, promoting open science, and encouraging active dialogue between the scientific community, education, and industry. In the seminar took part as well assoc. Prof. Valeria Simeonova, Cornelia Todorova, and Zornitsa Yakov from UNITe, researchers from FMI, MU, teachers, doctoral students, and assoc. prof. Mariana Atanasova and Trayan Iliev from the Competence Center for “Mechatronics, Innovation, Robotics, Automation, and Clean Technologies – MIRACle.” Some of the good practices and approaches will be presented and discussed at subsequent events to support the adaptation of universities to the new requirements of a knowledge-based economy and to improve cooperation with businesses.
