The 9th IEEE International Conference Big Data, Knowledge and Control
Systems Engineering (BdKCSE 2025) took place in Bankya on November 6, 2025.
Ivan Lambov, Ph.D. (UNITe; Institute of Mathematics and Informatics,
Bulgarian Academy of Sciences) and Tsvetomir Gospodinov (doctoral student
at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, Sofia University)
participated with a research paper titled “The Use of Blockchain to Secure
IoT Big Data”.

The rapid proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has resulted in
massive volumes of heterogeneous data, valuable for analytics, prediction,
and decision-making. However, the decentralized and resource-constrained
nature of IoT ecosystems introduces vulnerabilities affecting data
integrity, confidentiality, and trustworthiness. Blockchain technology
offers a promising approach by providing decentralized trust, immutability,
and tamper-resistant storage.

The paper presented by Dr. Lambov and Mr. Gospodinov investigates the use
of blockchain for securing IoT big data pipelines. It proposes an
experimental architecture integrating IoT sensors, a message broker, a
permissioned blockchain, and a big data analytics platform. The results
demonstrate that blockchain integration enhances data integrity and
auditability with minimal performance overhead, while enabling
accountability and trust in large-scale IoT data ecosystems. The paper
concludes with an analysis of limitations, opportunities, and future
research directions.

The conference serves as an open forum for disseminating current scientific
progress, innovative approaches, and original research results in Big Data
management, technologies, and applications. The conference proceedings will
be published in IEEE Xplore and indexed by Scopus and Web of Science.
